General Meeting

Patterson Roop Webster is a writer, visual artist, garden designer and speaker who lectures across Canada and the United States. She is the author of Autobiography of a Garden, a memoir about the creation and development of Glen Villa Art Garden in the Eastern Townships by Pat and her husband, prominent Canadian journalist Norman Webster. The 750-acre property is located on the traditional land of the Abenaki First Nation. According to Pat, “I believe that representing the history of a site and the people who inhabit it strengthens an emotional response and allows people to look deeper into the beauty that surrounds them. It opens their eyes and makes their hearts sing.” |

Dr. Marina Klein will tell us about COVID-19 Vaccines: What you need to know. Marina B. Klein M.D., M.Sc., FRCP(C) Dr. Marina Klein is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases/Chronic Viral Illnesses Service at the MUHC where she is Research Director. She is National Co-director of the CIHR-Canadian HIV Trials Network and co-leads the Mi4 Clinical Research Platform. Dr. Klein’s research program builds on years of multidisciplinary work leading one of the largest cohorts focused on HIV and HCV co-infection in the world (www.cocostudy.ca). As Canada Research Chair in Clinical and Epidemiologic Studies of Chronic Viral Infections in Vulnerable Populations, she is documenting the impact of new HCV therapies on health outcomes, designing and testing tailored approaches to increase access to diagnosis and treatment, building capacity for research with Indigenous communities and using evidence generated to advocate for policy change. Her goal is to pave the way to eliminating HCV and other chronic viral infections in Canada and globally. To this end she is leading an ambitious project called Montreal Sans Hep C which aims to make Montreal the first City in North America to eliminate HCV. |
Barbara Lewis performs powerful folk and pop songs that are both entertaining and highly emotional. With her wide-range, classically-trained voice, vulnerable stage presence and elegant storytelling ability, she is known as “a hugely gifted singer, a born communicator.” Barbara is also a vocal coach who specializes in working with singers over 40 - both beginners and professionals. Her YouTube channel is called, Singing After 40. |
Beverly McGuire is a well-known singer and voice teacher in many Montreal circles. Her versatility as a performer has charmed audiences in classical, Celtic and folk music. Equally compelling as an opera singer or accompanying herself in a ballad with acoustic guitar, she brings a sincerity to the music she serves.

Karnak, 3300 Sources Blvd., DDO Janet Torge currently wears the hats of television documentary producer, bookkeeper, archivist and prenatal teacher. In past careers, she’s been a radio talk-show host and traffic reporter, Montreal Gazette columnist, author, construction site manager, software manual creator and co-founder of the first rape relief centre in Canada. Radical Resthomes was conceived when her friends put her in charge of their senior housing some 30 years ago. The vision has changed considerably since then, and Janet has aged--along with everyone else-- but she has never lost sight of the idea and is determined to foster more and more self-directed housing projects in the future. |

The Mental Health Needs of Students |

The speaker at the October 16 meeting will focus on how schools are working to meet the mental health needs of youth. Cindy Finn is the Director of Student Services at the Lester B. Pearson School Board in Montreal. She holds a Ph.D. in educational psychology from McGill University and is a licensed psychologist. Cindy is a founding member of the Centre of Excellence for Mental Health, which supports school-based mental health initiatives in Quebec. |
